Revenge of Lucas
05.18.05 (8:22 pm)   [edit]

Star Wars Fan might not want to read this… Fair warning..

I remember when Star Wars came out.  I think the first trailer for the movie I saw was on the late night show Creature Features and Bob Wilkens was talking about the movie.  I went to see it and unlike so many I didn’t find it the great event that would change Science Fiction.  Now that’s not to say I didn’t like the movie.  I did.  But I was a Star Trek kid and honestly Capitan Kirk would have smoked Darth Vaders butt while adding a Princes Leia notch on his belt.

But out of all the Star Wars movies so far the original was the best for me.  It was fun.  It was lighthearted and yet not childish.  I thought the whole Star Wars period was over when they added EWOKS.  I mean come on.  Furry little dwarfs?  Only furry dwarfs I want to see should have battle axes and should be knocking demon riders off of horses but that’s Fantasy not Sci-fi.  I know.

The second on third movies were just silly.  While Star Wars was just one step above camp the second and third dropped below viewable for me.

The prequels I’ve watched and the sad part is I can’t remember them at all.  So they probably weren’t really bad just not really good either.  (Now ask me about the Wrath of Khan)

So will Revenge of the Sith redeem the Star Wars Empire?  It’s supposed to be much darker, which is something I like.  So maybe, just maybe this one won’t be too bad.

Oh and no, I’m not a treki geek.

While I will not get into the Star Wars vs Star Trek argument; I would like to state and hope that you could pass on a bit of information. The comparison that Democrats are trying to do with Episode III and Bush could not be more wrong. As a self admitted Star Wars dork (no I don't dress up in costume), it is apparent those trying to make the correlations are not paying attention. The Sith (bad guys) use emotion and ends justify means to drive their decision making. While the Jedi (good guys) use logic and morals to guide their decision making. Simply put a better parallel is that of Democrats being Sith and Republicans being Jedi. At least from an style stand point.

Another parallel can be drawn.
View Episode III and remember this:

"Also this week, a chilling, rambling Internet audiotape purportedly by al-Zarqawi surfaced. It denounced Iraq's Shiites as U.S. collaborators and said killing them is justified.

"God ordered us to attack the infidels by all means ... even if armed infidels and unintended victims — women and children — are killed together," said the speaker purported to be al-Zarqawi. "The priority is for jihad so anything that slows down jihad should be overcome.""

After seeing the film any one who compares Bush with the Sith. Is not only ignorant to what really happens in Episode III, but obviously doesn't realize that Vader is the one who kills the emperor and brings balance to the force (ie Return of the Jedi: episode VI)

I hope this clears up the ignorant ramblings of the left.

I've been hearing some of the complaints about Lucas and the politics of Star Wars and I too think is ignorant and in fact hurts the cause. We can’t see conspiracies around every corner or we (moderate conservatives) will simply be a slightly different version of the democratic underground.

As to the Star Trek-Star Wars debate, well I'm glad you didn't go that direction. I'm not a defender of the faith. lol I just like the early characters.

I was neither Trekkie nor Star Wars fan, but I've heard this was a lot better than the last two prequels.

I can easily wait until it's on the telly, and even then my eyes will probably be glazed over. LOL.

i totally hated revenge of the sith, for a whole lot of reasons, but here's a couple of them. i disagree with the commenter who said that the jedi use logic and morals to guide their actions, vs the sith who only use feelings. in fact, both of them used feelings and illogic. there were a number of occassions where jedi and sith alike were exhorting someone to 'search your feelings'. then we have darth sidious saying that good is really just a point of view (ie- relativism). but then ben kenobi says 'only the sith deal in absolutes'. george just contradicted himself, because he already told us that the sith were moral relativists. then there's the simple fact that that statement is self-refuting. i guess george never had a logic class in film school; he could have used one.
as for the politics of the film, i'm more inclined to agree that it wasn't a conspiracy on lucas' part. however, when padme says 'this war represents a failure to listen', i could swear i've heard that line coming out of some liberal's mouth in the last couple of years. does anyone else remember something like this? maybe i'm imagining things.
