If this turns out to be true, this would be pretty good news. It’s widely believed Bin Ladin is in Pakistan. During my time in Afghanistan one of the most frustrating issues was the cross border attacks from Pakistan on US troops and our inability to follow the attackers back across the border.
We sure are hearing a lot about the imminent capture of Bin Ladin. We’ll see I guess.

Well the last days posting has resulted in some interesting thoughts. Here our my thoughts on the arguments thus far.
First off, my posting was directed at the politicization of the debate for election purposes and the ridicules idea that this issue should be the deciding factor in voting for President. [b]I obviously didn’t state that very well[/b].
Second, not one comment addressed the question of who decides what a marriage is completely. The only argument I can see for gay marriage is that it’s “unfair”. On this site and others the “Equal protection” clause is the main point of law. Yet I’m not sure that is valid as I am restricted as much as a gay male in marriage. I cannot marry another man.

Third the cost to us all is valid. Insurance doesn’t come cheap. The cost will become higher than they currently are and that’s pretty damn high. For those of you that have never paid the premiums yourself trust me it can break you. This will be passed on to the consumer. Is it something we should simply accept? Maybe, but the case hasn’t been completely made yet.
Lastly, I’m not against gay marriage per se, I’m against extreme activist on all sides of the political spectrum. I’m against accusations of hate thrown around so easily when it’s honest differences of opinion. If you want my support convince me, don’t threaten me. If threatened I will destroy the threat first then listen to the argument. That would be unfortunate if the argument if valid.
Why do some take this as the defining issue when it represents a small proportion of the population?
Who defines marriage?
What are the benefits to society?
What stops Homosexuals from living together now?
Why can’t we let states vote on this issue and live with the results of that vote? I will.
Why has the judiciary tried so hard to make laws instead of enforcing them?
Why do we punish a judge for disobeying the law in Alabama but haven’t punished the Mayor of San Francisco yet?
I’m not against gay marriage on moral / religious grounds since I’m not particularly religious. I’m tired of activist forcing their views on a society without due legislative process.
Ok, I’ve purposely not written about the gay marriage issue, but I’m starting to get a little pissed. I don’t have anything against homosexuals. Don’t care if they’re in the military and don’t mind drinking with them. But there seems to be an idea that this election will be decided at least in part by this issue. Bullsh*t. The activist Gays are pushing the limits and breaking the law. Much like the activist Pro-Life group another group I despise.
Here’s my bitch with gay marriage, it will cost me more in taxes. I’m f**king tired of paying for others.
Besides that, who then determines what a valid marriage is? If gay marriage were legal then why wouldn’t polygamy be? Why not incest? What are the rules and who makes them? Can’t use Christian values, separation of church and state you know!!
Would the pro gay marriage crowd be willing to put this to a test and add it to a national ballot? Would they let it go if they lost? I doubt it.

Ok, I’ve been out of the loop here for a couple of days but I decided after a bit of thought that I’d comment on a subject getting some attention in conservative circles, John Kerry’s war record.
Now some of you might expect me to raise questions and doubt about how he earned those medals. Wrong! The fact is he did. Questioning his motives while in combat are as bad a questioning George Bush’s motives for joining the National Guard. You can’t know what’s in a mans heart so don’t try to second-guess.
It’s also a fact that looking at his war record is not necessary. We have a lifetime of political activism and votes to see how he thinks. We don’t need to question actions 30 plus years ago at a single point in history. Let it go. There are better more legitimate issues to concentrate on.
Now I would never vote for the man and hope others won’t either, just so we’re clear on that.
There I was, no shit. Sitting at a little bar on the outskirts of Denver. An older fellow was sitting a couple of stools down. At some point for some unknown reason he says to me, “I was with MACV back in Nam, you ever heard of them?” Yeah I replied not really wanting to talk. “That’s green beret stuff you know”. Now that got my attention in a no shit kind of way. “ Really” I said a little more awake. He then went on to tell me how he could walk through the woods without making a sound and the fine art of killing with a knife (those Green Berets are real bad asses you know).
“What unit were you with” I asked very curious. “The 7th”. Humm well there was 7th group but he didn’t say that. So I repeated “7th huh?” With that he added “7th CAV”. MACV and 7th CAV well hell I’m no historian so I let it go a little further.
He asked my what I did for a living. “I’m in the military”. “What MOS”, “oh I’m Commo” I said. That was just enough for him to take off some more. Now came the stories of flashbacks and how hard it was to get over.
After some more stories of multiple purple hearts and a silver star I once again asked what unit he was in at Bragg. This time his reply was “the 9th”. The 9th what I wondered. “Oh is that the 9th of the 82nd”? “Yeah that’s it. Damn I nearly fell over. “The 9th of the 82nd, well, well”.
After about 10 more minutes of this, I let it go so long since he was buying the beer, I pulled out my 10th group coin and showed it to him. He looked at it and said “hey that’s nice is it your unit”. The guy had no clue.
Now some of my friends would have busted him out and made a stink. I just didn’t have it in me. It was kind of funny and at the same time kind of sad. So shaking my head I just got up thanked him for the drink and walked out.
I still don’t get why people feel like they need to do this. It was a good laugh today at work though. :roll: :shock: :?
I’ve waited until today to comment on the Presidents appearance on Meet the Press. I wanted to see the reactions from the media outlets and other bloggers first. Why? Well I don’t think the story is what the President said and much as how it will be spun. As for the interview itself President Bush did fine and answered the question in an honest manner.
The response has been pretty much what I expected. The objective critics tend to say the President didn’t make his case as forceful and he should have yet didn’t really give any ground. I’m with this group.
The left and most media seem to say the President failed miserably. They take small parts out of context and claim he admitted failure. I didn’t see this at all.
The right claims a win and the steadfastness of the President. They write and say the President hit the right points, claiming a War Presidents status and decision made in light of that position.
So the result? Well if you hate the President you still do, if you like this President you probably still do and if you’re on the fence you’re probably still there. So was it worth it for the President? Well, I don’t think the left will have enough fodder for this to hurt the President and attention taken from the Democrats is a nice distraction. The undecided will be hit hard later this year as the campaigns narrow to only two. Expect a very dirty assault on the President.

Ok, there is a group of people that continue to claim President Bush is stupid. I wonder what this is based on. I mean he keeps whipping many a D’s A** . With that, they still say, “He can’t string three words together.” Humm
I’ve spent the last couple of days arguing with a number of different web site authors and can’t find a reason to continue. They won’t for a second concede GWB is literate or makes his own decisions. Yet they want to blame him for nearly everything they think is wrong. That’s usually ok since what they think is wrong I usually think is the only thing to do.
Most of their posts make wild ass accusations with absolutely no proof or even a hint of proof.
So what to do? If you post on their sites with real questions or answers they just delete your post. These guys are of course working for the next election and seeing GWB thrown out. That would be disastrous in my opinion since I don’t see one opponent that I would trust with anything presidential.
I wouldn’t mind arguing real political differences but these guys are nuts. They can’t write a sentence without personal insults.
Oh well, I’ll keep reading since I want to know what and how they think. But it’s hard some days. Luckily they don’t live near me. It would be too tempting… Never mind.

So discipline is supposedly in decline in Korea among service members and the answer must be that evil lap dance. This is just stupid. First off you can make it off limits all you want but it won’t stop it. Second unless it’s illegal what’s the problem?

Lack of discipline can usually be directed at the command. So with this being said someone needs to take a hard look at the current command in Korea.

So should there be an independent intelligence investigation? Hell yes there should be. Then we can see the full effects of the last twenty years of relying on technology instead of men that has rendered the intelligence agencies much less effective.
There will be no smoking gun against this administration. I know many out here pray every night something will turn up to prove that GB is an idiot but friends he is not and those around him are not. While we may disagree on policy, to assert these people are dumb is to underestimate them once more.
